One of the most prominent members of these classes were Charvadars. They earned their livelihood through hiring out their quadrupeds to passengers. The present research, through reviewing the travel literature of Qajar era, seeks to answer this question: What was the most considerable role of Charvadars as one of the members of subordinate social classes of Qajar era? The research was conducted through adopting descriptive-analytic and library methods.  The findings of the study revealed that Charvadars, despite their low social position during Qajar era, had a key role in the most common mode of traveling, namely journeying with Caravan. In other words, they were one of the central pillars of transportation in Qajar era. Charvadars not only carried passengers and goods but also guided passengers during the travels and supported them through problems and dangers of the routes. Although they belonged to a subordinate class of the society, Charvadars, given their key position in choosing the routes, verifying the time of waking up, and moving or stoppingcould demonstrate a kind of superiority over the members of the super classes. در حوزة مطالعات تاریخ دورة قاجار، به طبقات پایین اجتماعی کمتر پرداخته‎شده و تاریخ‌نگاران ابعاد گوناگون زندگی، نقش و اهمیت آنها را نادیده گرفته‌اند. یکی از شاخص‌ترین اعضای گروه‌های پایین‌دست در این دوره، چاروادارها بودند که با کرایه‌دادن چهارپایانشان، امرار معاش می‌کردند. <br />پژوهش حاضر، به‌ویژه با جست‎وجو در سفرنامه‌های دورة قاجار، بر‌ اساس روش توصیفی ـ تحلیلی و بررسی کتابخانه‌ای، در صدد پاسخ‎گویی به این پرسش است که مهم‌ترین نقش چاروادارها به‌ عنوان یکی از اعضای گروه‌های پایین اجتماعی، در جامعۀ عصر قاجار چه بوده‎است. بررسی داده‌ها بیانگر آن است که با وجود جایگاه اجتماعی پایین چاروادارها در دورة قاجار، آنها در رایج‌ترین شیوۀ سفر در آن دوره یعنی مسافرت با کاروان، نقشی اساسی داشتند و یکی از ارکان مهم در حوزة حمل‎ونقل در این دوره بودند. چاروادارها در جریان سفر، هم کار جابه‌جایی مسافران، باروبنۀ آنها و هم وظیفۀ راهنمایی مسافران را در طول سفر و نیز امدادگری آنها در برابر مشکلات و خطرهای مسیر بر عهده داشتند. چاروادارها به یک معنی با توجه به موقعیتی که در جریان سفر در این دوره داشتند، در مواردی مثل انتخاب مسیر، زمان بیدار‌شدن و حرکت کاروان و نحوۀ توقف‌ها، بر مسافرانی فرمان می‌رانند که موقعیت اجتماعی بالاتری نسبت به آنها داشتند. https://economichistory.ihcs.ac.ir/article_1455_2d07f1b7f4574bce788d0df0955d6885.pdf
